It's ok to feel lonely, there are plenty of other people who feel lonely too.
To me, the poem ‘Masks’ by Shel Silverstein shows an important concept. It reminds us that sometimes other people are feeling the same as you are, but aren’t voicing their emotions. There could be a person on the other side of your apartment or house (like in my piece) who is feeling lonely or left-out.
This poem tells me that when you voice your feelings, other people will step up too and you can find people who are similar to you. If you don’t, you might pass by missed opportunities for close friends.
“Masks
She has blue skin,
And so did he.
He kept it hid
And so did she.
They searched for blue
Their whole life through,
Then passed right by-
And never knew.”
– Shel Silverstein
It’s ok to feel lonely or like you don’t belong, but when you speak up or try to make new friends, you can gain life-long friends who might just be very similar to you.
